ARTIST: Jeanne Grut (b. 1927, d.2009) was a Danish sculptor who had a fascination with animals, as you can see in all of her best work - her fish being the most coveted. Jeanne Grut was greatly inspired by the Coelacanth, a fish that existed for approximately 250 million years and thought to have been extinct until 1938 when Captain Goosen caught one while trawling 20 miles southwest of East London in South Africa. Cool story! Jeanne designed for both Aluminia and Royal Copenhagen, both legendary factories of faience pottery & fine porcelain. This works bears only her signature so is very rare indeed!
