2-Seat Sofa by Rud Thygesen, Johnny Sørensen: “The King's Furniture” (SOLD)
A rare 2-Seat Sofa from “The King's Furniture” aka the 'Kongemøblerne' collection, manufactured by Botium in the 1970s. Made of oak, with caning on the seat & back and the loose cushions are upholstered in the original natural tan leather. Look at those curves - you just know it is really comfortable! This chair was given to King Frederik IX of Denmark as a birthday present in 1969 after it won the illustrious competition of Copenhagen's Carpenters' Guild. A photo of the King lounging in his new chair brought great fame to the pair, who continued to design fantastic furniture into the early aughts.

Fun fact! The library set of the film "Sixteen Candles" is furnished entirely by works of Thygesen & Sørensen!
"Through five decades Johnny Sorensen pushed the limits within esthetics, functionality, coherency and technology, and even though being deeply rooted in the classical Danish cabinet-maker traditions – his curiosity drove him to a continually exploration of new design languages."
