Artist: Svend Hammershøi (1873-1948): Best known as a ceramicist and designer as well as the younger brother of the artist Vilhelm, Svend Hammershøi was also a serious and accomplished painter in his own right. His ceramic works explored the organic abstraction of design that grew out of his admiration of ancient Asian pottery. He designed ceramics for Herman Kähler from 1893 until his death in 1948 where, along with Jens Thirsland, he perfected the black & white double glaze technique.
